Hello everyone

I just wanted to bring this post back up to the top. I recently bought another oud from OudProff. A beautifully smooth experience, just like the first one I bought from him a couple of years ago (I wrote a review about that experience here: http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=16887#pid11... )

I want to point out that he has genuinely great ouds and he’s easy to work with. One of the things that has surprised me in recent years is the lack of older ouds being advertised here on the forums. I’ve scoured the Internet for prospects, and I wish it could all just have been centralized here.

I hope posts like this encourage others to use this forum to its fullest potential. It’d be wonderful to see it erupt with ouds, sound clips, information about older ouds and makers, etc. The number of “fake” ouds out there is astounding. Even now, there is a “Nahat” oud on sale on eBay that is a fake. I remember when people used to post here and check with the experts to see if ouds were genuine, if the price being asked for was reasonable, and so on.

Hopefully threads like this one can reignite that spark that we all are surely looking for here.

Dear TruePharaoh21,

Thanks for your kind words, and passion about old-school ouds. It is very satisfying that such ouds end up in the hands of someone who really appreciates them, especially my dear TP21, who's a genuine and fine oudist.

I've seen that disastrous oud on eBay (another friend asked me about it !), and it's very disappointing to see misled people bidding on it, and most likely thinking it is a genuine one :(

Wishing the best to all,

I've updated the above oud list !

Out of curiosity, why are some of these ouds tuned down so much? Sometimes 2 whole tones it seems. It sounds really good, obviously, but is there a specific reason for it?

Dear OudProf,
That armenian oud sounds wonderful! Any more pics of it?
I am curious on the size specs of this OUD. Is it cedar top?
Thanx very much.

Dear Moh,

Having more than 70 ouds in hand leaves very little time for each oud, therefore, I try NOT to tune them at concert pitch, just to avoid having prolonged unnecessary pressure on the soundboards. That’s all!

Thanks

Dear MattOud;

Here’s a link to another video and photos of the oud:

The dimensions are: 60 cm string length, 20 cm neck. Bowl width is 38 cm (@ widest point).

You may want to pay close attention to the fine work (articulate ornaments!) in the photos ;)

All the best,

Can you let me know who the maker of the Armenian oud was? It sounds beautiful.
