Darbuka/Bendir/riq loop percussions for oud taksims?

dinausuare - 4-21-2019 at 09:02 AM

Hello there dear oudists!

I'd love to know where to find some rythmic darbuka , bendir or riq percussion loops that would be suitable to accompaign an oud taksim/improvisation.

Example : I loved the munir bashir's baghdad song : https://youtu.be/mRprMJmM220?t=108 especially the taksim in 1:48 with darbuka in the background!

I would love to hear your opinions about this! thanks for helping me

Cheers

I've got a pile of Greek rhythms somewhere if they're any good to you.

There’s an app on the Apple Store called DumDumTak for free. Might be to your liking.

I downloaded the Greek rhythms years ago, the site may not exist any more. I think I got the link from the Greek, Turkish and Klezmer Clarinet forum. U2U me with an email address if you want them.

You can make your self your own rythm with sampling software very easily.
Open Metronome for PC and groovmixer for smartphone android :

Its $1.99 FYI

It looks like you tap the screen to play, I'm looking for an automatic looping percussion app to practice along with Oud, like OP. Is this one like that?

Yes - you can choose from 39 rhythmic variations that loop (baladi; maqsum; jurjina; etc.), and set the tempo to whatever you like.

Hey guys! Thanks for your great answers!

After a little of googling of searching I found a good playlist that is not only high quality audio, but also rythmic in a professional way : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02_d6ERnbv0&list=PLoUZqGafr_ZXkP...

also here's the greek rythms' link to download : http://www.gtc-music1.com/pro_uploads/kritikoniko/greek_rythm/Greek...

Enjoy :)

I second Stos's suggestion for the Darbuka VST by Wizoo, it was released in 2003 and has long been discontinued. So you have to search out a crack as it no longer possible to get a legal copy.

It is amazing, and I think still the best. If you are a user of KONTAKT then Sultan's Drums by Sonokenetic is quite good ( though not as flexible as Darbuka VST).

The newish Middle East Discovery Series by Native Instruments for KONTAKT also contains some excellent darbuka, bendir, and daf loops.
