Anyone know if a good oud teacher in Los Angeles exists?
I've heard mention here of Weal Kakish, however I've been trying to get in contact with him with no success. Not sure if he is still in LA either.alim - 12-4-2019 at 06:33 PM
I friended Afif on FB and messaged him. He's not teaching right now (no time). I asked him if there was anyone other than Naser in LA that he could
recommend. I'll let you know if he has any further suggestions.animalwithin - 12-7-2019 at 10:06 PM
Thank you John! I sent him and William a message but didn't hear back, seems like they're not available. I still have to touch base with Naser next. animalwithin - 12-11-2019 at 10:49 AM
Seems my only option might be Skype lessons, much to my dismay Naser is
unfortunately too far from me (at best over 1 hour, at worst over 2 hours).Jody Stecher - 12-11-2019 at 01:07 PM
There are two possibilities at UCLA. Munir Beken for Turkish oud and AJ Racy for Arabic oud. Although Racy is associated with buzuk and flute, he
plays oud well. I don't know if either teaches privately but maybe......John Erlich - 12-11-2019 at 06:54 PM

It never occurred to me that academics like Beken and Racy might teach private students, but no harm in asking!
