Hi would like to share with you my latest creation. Quilted maple oud with Ebony fingerboard inspired by farid al atrash's oud which was made by Emil
Khoury.
Spruce top and bone rosettes. French polished with super blonde shellac.
Sound sample to follow when I get strings in the mail. First time I don't order from Bryan and it takes forever!

Thanks Khalil
Unfortunately it's flying to France very soon. It was commissioned work.
Seems ouds are exempt from travel restrictions and they can still visit beautiful countries :p

Did you order strings from Turkey too? I've had a set in the mail for over 3 weeks now... not the retailer's fault at all but still disappointing.
Seems like the mail is very slow right now in general which is understandable.
Dumb question, do you do the inlay on the ribs before bending them? I love that stuff.

I tried strings by mail.com , I have ordered pegs from turkey after the strings that arrived before.
Never a dumb question. I didn't know how it was done either untill I asked
It is possible to do both but I do the inlays after the bowl is made. The inlays are thin, less than 1 mm and can flex in the cavity with little
pressure. Just tape does it, with hide glue it sets in seconds.
Since you must bend the ribs at a high temperature I think the glue in the inlay would soften and decay. honestly don't know how people do it before
bending. Especially those ribs that are made of 2 woods with double beveled marquetry.

Nice work Samir. Congratulations!
Postal service (US post and Canada post) due to the pandemic situation is now very slow. A recent batch of Pyramid strings from Brian mailed from New
York at the beginning of this month by USPS arrived for customs clearance on 10 July. The package was in the hands of Canada Post in Montréal on the
12th July. It finally arrived in Ontario last Tuesday 28th July! Unusual times indeed. Tracking system was excellent so I have to wonder if Canada
Post are placing international packages in quarantine for a week or two before processing them?

Mabrouk Samir, beautiful work. I was thinking back to your first efforts all those years ago. You were doing well then, but you are a master now.
Warm regards,
Greg

Really beautiful. I love maple! I have a beautiful taylor guitar with maple.
I look forward to hearing this one. How long did this take you to make Samir? Lovely.
I think shipping on everything is slow. Since covid, even small items within Canada have taken similar times for me as some things I ordered from the
US. I haven't ordered international as I am too worried it wont come.

Most beautiful work, Samir, congratulations!

Thanks everyone. I will share a sound sample once the strings get settled.
It took me a while to make. I started in 2018, but does not tell the whole picture. Since then I moved homes and finished more ouds and restorations.
It was a back burner project and thankfully the client was very patient.

After discussing with the person who originally ordered this oud, I will be offering the instrument for sale in a general auction. I have been
mentally and spiritually affected by the August 4th explosion in Beirut. As such I have decided to donate all profits of the sale to the Lebanese Red
Cross. If anyone is interested this is a great opportunity to obtain a very nice oud and to contribute to a good cause in a time of need.

Note also that the Canadian Federal Government has just launched the 'Lebanon Matching Fund' and will match all donations to the fund made by Canadian
citizens between 04 August to 24 August. This is to ensure that all donations will go to trusted charitable organisations for distribution.
