Sorry about the bad news but I’ve just learnt that Matthias Wagner has passed away. I couldn’t verify this myself as no activity on his Facebook
for a long time.
RIP

Oh no!
He sent out an email a couple of weeks ago saying he was handing the business on, but I assumed that just meant he was retiring. Whatever his illness
was, he worked on through it almost to the end.

Very sorry to hear this. There was a time when Oudstrings and Matthias were really the only knowledgeable and reliable oud string sellers online.
Matthias put so many of us on the right track when experimenting with strings and gauges. Think of him when you play today.

Yes I also just saw a post on Facebook. I met Matthias many years ago when I participated in one of the workshops he organised in Badenweiler.
He was a kind gentleman, friendly, helpful and a hard-worker. He did so much for Oriental music, its students, teachers, and people who just enjoyed
listening to it.
RIP Matthias, my thoughts are with him and his family

I knew him very well since a feaw years. I participate 8 times to his Oriental Music Academy. Thanks to him, I met there some very great masters of
oud : Adel Salameh, Tarek Abdallah, Saif Al Khayyat, Nehad El Sayed, Negar Bouban. And other great musicians : Adel Shams El Din, Firas Hassan, Bassem
Hawar, Mohamad Fityan, Sofia Labropoulou...
I learned there so much from them.
