Hi everyone,
I have decided to study OUD and as an absolute beginner wondering how/ where to get my first OUD.
Any suggestions?
Are the Amazon ones good?
Thanks 😊

Welcome to the forum!
Amazon is not a great source, I wouldn't buy an oud from them. It's tough to pick out an oud as a beginner.
Are you in NY city? There are a number of oud players, sometimes folks are selling an old instrument. I think there's a guy in NJ near the city that
has ouds sometimes — I'd have to ask a friend how to get in touch with him. There's the Music Inn (in the West Village), which occasionally
has good student instruments but it's pretty hit and miss.
There are some internet options as well. Maurice Oud Shop (run by Mike who runs the forum - link above) is a great source, though it looks like there
aren't many budget options in stock at the moment. This one looks pretty good: https://www.mauriceoudshop.com/apprentice-oud-241/
Also what kind of oud you want depends on whether you are looking for something for Turkish style (Ottoman/Armenian) or Arabic style.

Hi Boaz,
I'm in Brooklyn and have a beginner level Arabic oud that I'm selling. Feel free to shoot me an email (DavkaBand@gmail.com) if you're interested.
Best,
Josh

If you are in New York, get in touch with John Vergara.

Isn't Amir Vahab a bit overpriced??
