There's the famous Udi Hrant recordings. And a couple Yorgo Bacanos collections. And the Omar Naqshbandi LP. and Riyad al Sunbati's taqsims. This
release https://canary-records.bandcamp.com/album/mid-eastern-meditations of Dr. J. K. Sutherland (Hagop Lutfi Sarkissian) is an absolute revelation for
me. I don't yet have the Serif Muhiddin Targan CD but excited to hear it.
Does anyone have more like this? Different strands of oud style from much older artists? Also, beyond basic 'Arab vs Turkish' what can be said about
style here? I'm surprised that my impression is Sunbati has a more introverted and even intellectual vibe than Naqshbandi. Sutherland seems restless
and hyperactive at times but somehow less flashy/dramatic than Hrant. Do these assessments align with those of people who actually have serious
experience playing/listening to oud (i.e. not me)?
