A recent performance with the New York Arabic Orchestra. My first time playing this piece, such a nice composition in a relatively rare maqam - thought some of you might enjoy it.

Great performance, Brian! I am so bummed I missed this concert, basically learned about it too late. Looks like it was sold out too.

Thanks, guys!
Amir, that would have been great to meet in person! Sorry you couldn't make it - it sold out really quickly. But I think they will have us back in 2024, I'll try to give a heads up if we schedule something.

I had never heard this style of music before. I didn't know there was music that mixed a classical orchestra with ethnic instruments and rhythm. Thanks for sharing my friend. This place is definitely very interesting with great topics. :)

Glad you liked it!

You're right that it is different than the older style in the Ottoman period, which would typically just have one violin.

This isn't really a mix though, it's just a takht with extra violins - very typical of music in Egypt, Tunisia, etc. from the 1930s on.
