A recent performance with the New York Arabic Orchestra. My first time playing this piece, such a nice composition in a relatively rare maqam -
thought some of you might enjoy it.

Great performance, Brian! I am so bummed I missed this concert, basically learned about it too late. Looks like it was sold out too.Brian Prunka - 11-11-2023 at 02:05 PM
Thanks, guys!
Amir, that would have been great to meet in person! Sorry you couldn't make it - it sold out really quickly. But I think they will have us back in
2024, I'll try to give a heads up if we schedule something.
Thanks, guys!

I had never heard this style of music before. I didn't know there was music that mixed a classical orchestra with ethnic instruments and rhythm.
Thanks for sharing my friend. This place is definitely very interesting with great topics. Brian Prunka - 3-23-2025 at 08:33 AM

Glad you liked it!
You're right that it is different than the older style in the Ottoman period, which would typically just have one violin.
This isn't really a mix though, it's just a takht with extra violins - very typical of music in Egypt, Tunisia, etc. from the 1930s on.
