What's up with Haifa ?

Hello

Maybe you noticed a lot of great oud players come from this city, they all have this perfectly balanced Simon like rishi with great intonation.

Do you think growing up there predisposes you to become a great oudist ?

My observations on the haifawi rishi:
Wrist is almost not bent
Right Hand/rishi as close as possible to the strings
Percussive down strokes not scared to hit the pick guard, maybe its even an ornament

For me they have the best sound over all the different style/schools of oud playing

That's a good question, maybe it's in the hummous! :)

In general, this is a musical region. Particularly the villages east of there in the Galilee. There is a strong music education, many many musicians there and musical families, of which usually play to a high degree.

Taiseer Elias, who is from Shfaram, east of Haifa, is one of my very favorite oudists: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOaPSFEVLcs
