Hello everyone,
I've been thinking about buying an oud for over a year now, and I've finally decided to take the leap. Since this will be my first oud, I’d really
appreciate any advice you might have—and hopefully some specific recommendations as well.
I'm looking for an Arabic oud. From what I’ve gathered here on the forum, it seems clear that the cheaper, more generic ouds sold online aren't
considered a good investment. I understand the ouds made by known and reputable luthiers are the way to go, even if they come at a higher cost.
However, I’m a student and I currently cannot allocate too much. That being said, I’ve been saving up specifically for this, and I’m willing to
spend up to $1200 USD on a well-made, reliable oud. I know this budget won’t get me a top-tier oud, but I’m hoping it will be enough for a solid
and good-quality one. I'm also open to buying a used oud, as long as it’s from a respected maker, but I would like to hear if this is a good
idea.
Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions!
