I have a cheap Egyptian oud I bought on Muhammad Ali St. in 1995. It STILL smells. I think it's either the glue or the finish on the face.
Yuck...
Best,
John

What a great subject
A couple of years ago, I bought a santur (santoor) from India and it still smells like the airport at Mumbai. Anybody who has been there will know
what I mean
Regards,
Greg

Greg,
You won't believe this but I also got a santur in India a few years ago and it still has the airport smell. After living in India for several years I
have to say that the Mumbai airport may have the most lasting aroma of them all...
All the best, Amos

Just leave your oud out of the Case!! and The smell will go away sooner or latter. Remember that you have a egyptian made oud probably from Mohamad
Ali street. Its the type of finish that they use that smells like that. The glue also smells in my opinion but Iam not shure. Unless you are 110%
certain that the smell comes from the finish on the face ( verry unlikely btw) and that it really does have a finish on the face ( only you know if
there is a finish) , AND that the face is thick enough to take such a removal (more then 4mm). And Even after all that it could still smell. So my
suggestion to you is. Leave it out of the Case! and Let it air out.
Regards.

Thank you, I have a hard shell case, I will leave my oud out on my stand instead of in the case when I'm not playing it
