just missed what i imagine would have been a wonderful
concert in the accademia delle senesi program directed
by philippe herreweghe.
saturday 6 aug., the oud player marc loopuyt
played the following pieces in pieve di santo stefano,
castelmuzio:
o quam tu pulchra es - by alessandro grandi
toccata XVI - by alessandro piccinini
prosperina: signor, quel infelice, lettera amorosa and
pianto della madonna - by monteverdi
tradimento - by barbara strozzi
torna, deh torna - by giulio caccini
tocacata VI - kapsberger
nothing like the usual repertoire ... i'm really sorry to have missed it.
the setting and acoustics of these venues - not just
this one but other competing music programs in the
area - are just perfect here in italy and i imagine
that the reverberations of an oud would be especially
impressive.
one of the down sides of living in rural tuscany is
that there's no easily accessible - or reliable -
central source for "what's on" type events. it's not
easy to find out what's happening in the next town.
alas - bill
