Question regarding Farid's taqaseem

elrabee3 - 11-1-2003 at 08:06 AM

i am wondring why Farido is tunning his oud before the last part of his taqaseem, i mean is it possible to play those taqaseem without tunning the oud, the reason is i heard Abadi playing those taqaseem and somtimes he is tuning his oud, and somtimes he doesnt?

i know what you mean. i can't be sure, but I think the oud tuning is just b/c the oud is famous for going out of tune at the wrong moment.:))

i don't think they're changing the tuning to play something different, but it's been awhile since i've heard that taksim.

I've heard it and it's just normal tuning- is completely normal :))

Yeah, I think it was just his C-strings were not cooperating with him that day elrabee3.

I believe the reason for this is the following: most of the taqaseem up to that point had focused on the 4 lower strings, and didn't regard much of the high C strings. They were probably in tune to begin with, but Farid was probably making sure that the C strings were still in tune at that point, knowing full well that the remainder of his taqaseem would focus on that pair of strings.

P.S. I suppose it is also possible that it just wasn't cooperating... who knows? lol

Some of the recordings are not of the best sound quality and it's very difficult to hear the subtle tone of a course little bit out of tune. I've heard other great oudstars with the same ¨normal' problem with their ouds and it has nothing to do with their greatness. After all, our problems are small compared with the difficulties a lutenist who plays a lute with gut strings might have.:))

And actually, I find it ¨completely normal¨:)) that the poor oud changes the pitch during a concert - getting lower.
