Yuji Tsunemi

TruePharaoh21 - 11-5-2003 at 10:19 AM

I was exploring through the wonders of the internet for oud players, and I came across one who shocked me a bit.

Listen first:

http://www.oud.jp/real/TaqsimOud-Longha%20Hijazkarkurd.ram

Well... the taqsim is ok (it's an excerpt from his CD).

So then I listened to this:

http://www8.ocn.ne.jp/~oud/real_meta/LonghaSultanYegah.ram

That was a bit better.

Now you ask... what's so special about this oud player? I hope you heard the sound files before you read the following...The guy is Japanese.

I'm impressed by the fact that this kind of music attracted him not only to the style, but to the oud. He plays oud, and he's Japanese, and he plays arabic styled takassim...

I thought it was just something I'd share with you all. What do you think of him? Anyone have his CD?

His site is:

http://www.oud.jp/

Check it out. Click on the third button on the left, that will take you to all the sound files.

Don't forget to comment.

Thats a pretty good find man, i was impressed with his longa farafaza taqsim, it was only a clip of 30 seconds, but still impressive nevertheless.
thanks for sharing that.

Actually, here's another Japanese oud player who studied in Tunisia.

TruePharaoh, why are you surprised that people in Japan play middle eastern music? There are lots of non-Middle Eastern people studying and playing Middle Eastern music.

These days, its the non-middle eastern people appreciating it more than the indiginous folk. Most middle eatern people I know would rather listen to Britney Spears than "tarab". Sad isn't.

Good find TP21, and Sam I think you said it right on. It always amuses me when I'm watching a show about Egypt, the pyramids, etc. on the discovery channel and the Egyptologist is always from Germany or some other country other than Egypt. :D On another note; I don't mind watching Brittany Spears, but her music isn't as appealing to me. I think Bob Dole and his dog might agree. :bounce:

We all like looking at Brintey, however Shakira recently sang "Shati Ya Dunia" by Fairuz in one of her shows. She's Lebanese/Columbian, but if I ever saw her hold an oud, that would make my day.

(Sorry this thread is going off topic)

Ah, yes. Shakira on oud would be very nice indeed. :airguitar:

Japanese CD

Hi

Is anyone planning to order the CDs by this guy Yuji Tsunemi? It would be really interesting to find out what they are like.

Reminds me of the last time I ordered a CD from Japan. I had to send an international money order as the company did not accept credit cards, and this cost me an absolute fortune. The CD was 'Solo' by Adel Salameh, which has now been reissued as 'Master of the Oud' and is available everywhere!!!

Oh well, it was well worth the effort.
