That is a very nice oud. I have been looking at that oud as the next instrument I will probably buy. How do you tune the oud? Is the 12th string
string a doubled D string? Do you like the doubled low string better than a single drone?

Shahata, but I have seen frequently those soundboards that they hit to me enough: you will never see such a soundboard in a Spanish guitar, not even
of low price.

I believe the soundboard is only one piece. I think the lighting makes it appear that there are more pieces. Observe the picture of the fingerboard,
you can't see divisions in the soundboard in that picture.
Perhaps if the board was sanded by hand that's why the light bounces off of it unevenly? I'm not aware if Maurice uses hand sanding or a planer for
his soundboards.

It could be joined in many peices. But never the less.
There is no doubt that shehata ouds are among the top ouds being made today. There sound is magical and it isnt not comparable to any other luthiers
sound either. Its verry unique and I happen to love the sound of Maurice's ouds. Its a mather of personal taste. The other thing is that we hear all
the time the best sound boards are made of 2 joined peices... I know how it would make a difference if they are 3 peices that are perfectly joined...
anyways if you use 3 peices the joint wouldnt be strait down the middle of the oud wich is right under the strings and where it would get the most
vibration (DR.oud??, Jameel ?). Still if it affects the projection of the oud I doubt it is the case with his ouds since they are really loud. Then
again one might argue that the quality of the sound would be deminished but there are to many that just love the shehata sound to disregard that.

It sure looks like 6 pieces, but I guess it could be the light, or whatever. I don't think it really matters, though. I am sure it sounds great.

Just tune it like you would tune an 11 string oud, but the bottom course is doubled. So, it all depends on how you are tuning your oud now. It is
not that different, but now you will have two bass strings instead of one, and I am sure it will give you a really rich sound. There is more tension
on the neck, but I am sure it is built for that. Just make sure you don't go with some tuning higher than the standard Arabic tuning. But, Samir, I
am a novice as well, so I am open to other thoughts. I have never played a 12 string oud.
The 13 string oud you are getting from Nazih, though, will be a completely different animal. I have one 13 string oud, and I tune it DGAdgcf, but I
suppose that there are a million ways to do it. I just like those fourths, and it makes it pretty easy to transpose songs that way.

Not sure what you mean by "yes, but his is a Shehata". That doesn't make sense. Like Jonathan said, it's a Rapakousios. Mav had a Shehata a while back
that Rapakousios put a new top on, but this isn't it. Maybe you are confusing the two? As Mav originally posted, this is a Nahat model made by
Dimitris. There's a sound clip of it somewhere here, and it sounds great.
