Thats a pro's playing. Do you know if this is a recent recording? I beleive he's pretty old now. But I always wondered if it would be possible to get
in contact with him in Alexandria and get personal courses while in egypt.

To my knowledge, this is a relatively recent recording. Probably within the last 10 years, which is recent in oud-time, I guess.

To my knowledge, Scott Marcus got in touch with him about 20 years ago, and Mr. Michel proved to be a very valuable source of information for Scott
Marcus' dissertation.

I do not think this is a recent recording. Last I saw Prof. Michel was ten years ago at my music teacher place Mr. Tony Turk. Prof. George Michel is a
family member to Mr. Turk. I do not think Prof. Michel does any recording anymore. I just bought this CD through http://www.Amazon.com
Prof. Michel is a great value to the history of the arabic music.

I was wondering how hard it could be to get in touch with him when in alexandria. Since my relatives live there I wonder if it would be possible to
link up with him for a course or 2. Or if there is some kind of music academy where you could link up with teachers.

I think Emad would know more than I do on this topic, but I would assume that George Michel is probably located in Cairo. Hop into a van for a few
hours and take a ride down to Cairo! It's a great center of music.

I actually did not know that Prof. Michel is living in Alexandria. I have always knew he is located in Cairo. Not 100% sure though.

I thought he was from there for some reason. But I just read somewhere that he was a prof at cairo music concervatory.

I dunno when I'll be going next to egypt probably in a while but when I do I'll for shure make it to cairo but I wont be staying there.

He is a beautiful player and a real inspiration. I dont want to be the bearer of bad news, but I think he passed away a few years ago. I asked about
him when I was in Egypt last year.

It goes to show how much knowlege is going down into eternity with the passing of these old players that played in the time of Egypt's golden era.
Wish there was somekind of fund available to gather all there knowlege.

just curious: the track in the first post is kurdilihicazkar longa. on one recording i have the piece is credited to "kemani sebuh", on another it's
credited to bimen sen. does anyone know who actually wrote it?
