Yemeni oud

My first Oud...

Summer 2005...holiday in Yemen : landscapes, people, culture, music...music!!

After sharing several evenings with Yemeni musicians dancing & singing I decided to get an oud at a local store in Sanaa. Found a used one for 140$ (missing strings, some scratches...) to give it a try...

I'll try to post a picture of the label for translation - where is this oud coming from?

Back in France I could not keep my hands off it!! "Fairly" easy to play/tune and quite stable over time...but I wanted a brighter tone.

I have now bought a new one - floating bridge, very nice look/sound - but that's where my troubles begin... I will post some questions in the maintenance/tech tips part of the forum. Hope you guys can help a "beginner" to get this thing right and playable!

Guilhem.

Note : Please excuse the quality of my english. I do not believe it's that bad (especially for a frenchman!) but I really lack some vocabulary on oud...

Thanks for the info. I believe it is coming from Aden but I have no way to check.

Won't prevent me to play it...
