Maybe we can force a tenuous link by supposing that the Egypt coach is a relation of Maurice Shehata ! And what about that bust-up with Mido on the touchline in the semi-final - the guy refused to be substituted, refused to leave the field and had to be virtually dragged away ! A six month ban from the Egyptian squad seems a bit harsh, though.

SamirCanada - 2-9-2006 at 06:21 AM

I doubt verry much Hassan Shehata and Maurice Shehata are related... one is muslim the other is christian.
I think Mido is over rated. He should have stayed in totenham for the legnth of the cup. It seems like he keeps his cool where they are arguably better players around like Defoe and Keane around him. Just my views on this. Maybe Iam the one that is harsh but judging from the Boooing off he received from the crowd Iam not alone to think so.

There was no way Mido could have been left out of the squad when he's been having such a good season at Spurs - 9 goals, ahead of both Defoe and Keane. I'm not defending his reaction to the substitution, but it's best put down to youth, inexperience and passion for the game.

Hope you enjoy the final :)

Good game, bad referee! Even though I cheering for Masr, I would have been tremendously disappointed had Egypt scored that penalty in the last ten minutes of the game.

SamirCanada - 2-10-2006 at 05:10 PM

Indeed... Its said that there is soccer god that keeps these things from hapening.
The ref did what he could and you could see that he had in mind to do his best not to repeat the previous game's bad refing. but thankfully his mistakes werent capitalised on. African football is in a better stage knowing that the final result is a fair one... its tremendous pressure at that stage and you can definelty feel it.
