Well looks great but i think that $27.00 is a lot since no one will have the time to go every day or so and learn. He should have done a fixed price on how to learn the oud , That would have been a better deal.
Regards Samir...

Thank you Samircanada

I think this is a vey good skilled teacher. It is a great shame that the teaching is in arabic. And to learn to play the oud for $27 I guess anyone of us here could spend that money on KFC not an oud teacher.

Samir, I am surprised that you're asking for a fixed price to learn the oud when you were willing to buy the whole country of Lebanon a year or so ago.

I highly recommend this humble skilled teacher. I am sure members from Iraq can comment on his style better than me but I'd personally learn heaps from him.

Thank you Samircanada for this great link.

emad, over the introduction video, the guy performed a fingerboard technique by naseer shamma. . .also most of the stuff that he show is mostly what we learn at naseer's school

What do you mean by that? Sorry I did not get your point

You know makes no deferent what i would buy ..That is my own business ,i said that in this site a lots of guys cant afford $27.00 per month to pay a site that you or me are not sure if it will oporate or not(IRAQ) ok....People in this site are looking for free stuff. I do not need any lessons I have my own teacher and I can pay what ever i have to pay.
You always have to say something erregular ......I was going to egnore you , If you can afford it why at one point you where trying to make me an offer on a Oud ...where I had it for a very low price..So dont act like so generious . Would be nice if you mind your own business..End of conversation with you.........Dont even respond...I will egnore you.

Why can't you be ...

sydney - 2-14-2006 at 02:40 AM

a caring person ...

if a very good skilled oud player trying to earn a clean money to feed him self and his family in a country full of wars and killings why run him down? what is irregular in this?

Sorry if I upset you. I regret commenting on what you said to start with.

Stay well.

What oud the guy in the video is using ?

SamirCanada - 2-14-2006 at 05:32 AM

The video files are verry nice. Arent they though.
The concept is a great Idea but paying for things on the internet is what drives people away since there not left with much in the end.
After seing the quality of his videos I think he should make a instructional dvd and sell it for a higher price and say include one month of after sales suport on questions etc...
He could even make a basic/intermediate and a advanced dvd
That would make people want to pay for it since there left with something tangible.

And one more thing why are we fighting again...?

palestine48 - 2-14-2006 at 09:33 AM

I agree with Samir Canadas Idea. Mainly because dvds will prevent slow down or traffic lags of data that usally happens on the net but also the net allows for more frequent updating.

As for the price, if you figure that an oud toucher normally charges 50 bucks an hour in the U.S. , one or 2 lessons will make your money back. So i think 27 dollars for a whole month is not bad.

My only reservation of using online studies is you might miss some actual hand movements that you are able to see up close.

Emad where is my linda linda man! How are things ?

Also anyone want to teach me some ziad rahbani songs?

Hi guys,
I tried getting into some of the "available" streams to get an idea before I buy the first lesson. It took forever and I didn't get anything on display.
Well, that is a bit discouraging. I will try again at night. Myabe the server is overloaded during the day.
Best Regards,
Hatem

revaldo29 - 2-14-2006 at 10:36 AM

I too had the same problem. Not a very good sign.

Hatem_Afandi - 2-14-2006 at 10:52 AM

Hi Revaldo,
Maybe we can find a way to contact this gentleman to see whether he might sell some educational DVD's instead. That might work better
Have a great day,
Hatem

Anybody know what he means when he says " Maqamat el Ra'Issieh "
are they the main Maqamat or is it all of them that are included in that adjective?

jshead - 2-15-2006 at 01:52 AM

I also like the idea of and Instructional DVD. It would also be good to help a guy Iraq. Are their instructional DVDs out there by anyone?

Marina - 2-15-2006 at 03:44 AM

The site is very nice and, on my computer, I was able to see some other instruction (takasim saba) and not just the introduction. It's pitty that there is no English. It took me ages to read just the names of the makamat in Arabic...But, he is so good musician and he plays so nice & clean, I would pay for it 27$ per month if it was in English...

Marina - 2-15-2006 at 03:47 AM

The maqam bayati mowie also works well...

Hi Samir

I think he said he is going to teach the main maqams and the related ones too. so he said Elr issieh and El far ia.

This guy is really cool.

What a shame Marina he could have help many members here.

al-Halabi - 2-15-2006 at 07:16 AM

The term "al-maqamat al-ra'isiyyeh" refers to the dozen or so primary maqams that represent the basic tetrachords (ajnas) of the maqam system. These include Rast, Bayati, Hijaz, Kurd, Nahawand, Ajam, etc. The term "al-maqamat al-far'iyyeh" is used to refer to the derivative modes built on the basic ajnas of the primary ones. For example, Hijazkar, Shadd Araban and Shahnaz are seen as derivatives of Hijaz, Farahfaza is a derivative of Nahawand, etc. On the web site he lists the maqams he covers in the oud lessons (they appear in the second level of the course).

Thanks A-Halabi
