Hi Everybody,
I am a professional electric and acoustic guitarist in New York City. I have been experimenting with fretless electric guitar for about 4 years now.
I have been strongly considering beginning to study Oud as an acoustic compliment to my fretless electric. I have a limited budget, but I would like
to get a decent instrument to learn with. I have been hard pressed top find any stores that sell Ouds. Does anyone know of a place in NYC where I
could play some? Also, if I was to purchase an Oud via the internet, what should I look for? What makers are reputable and which are not? Any help
would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Hi Mike - You're not the first person to raise similar questions - try using the search feature at the top of the page, and use 'affordable',
'budget' or 'limited budget" as search terms. I think you'll find plenty of material that might help you identify issues and focus further
questions. There's also a lot to be said for just going to the buy and sell ouds forum and reading virtually everything that's posted, even if it
relates primarily to the higher end instruments....even if you're not going to buy a Nahat (the oud Stradivarius), after a while, you'll get a good
idea of what the issues are, and what exites people in an oud....
It's up to you, of course, but you may also want to consider adding another post to this thread, in which you get pretty specific about how much money
you want to spend right now. I've seen this done a few times on this forum, and, in my opinion at least, I think it generates more useful replies.
Logically enough, there are bargains to be had in several different price/quality ranges, and it's much easier for someone to direct you
appropriately if they know what your current limitations are.
Take care, Mark

Here is a list of ouds available for sale by the members here.
First the administrator of this Site Mike has 2 professional ouds for sale here they are.
http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=3450
Then you have Oudman who is selling 2 professional model ouds.
http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=3438
http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=3305
Then myself Iam selling a professional oud and a intermediate one http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=2705
http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=3321
You can have 100%confidence in all these sellers. There are more members that have ouds for sale too. If you look around in the buy and sale forrum
you will find what your looking for. Also I advise you to buy from members here and to stay away from online stores and generic music stores. Because
you know that the oud was owned by someone who respects and knows the instrument and you'll have your questions awnsered professionaly.
