Gamil Georges

...this may seem like a bad (or perhaps overasked) question, but here goes....
I just recently aquired a Gamil Georges oud (my fiancee purchaced it from a garage sale) and I've been scouring the internet looking for some background info on the guy, and the quality of his instruments, but I havn't found much at all. What could you guys tell me?

I'm also going to Antiques Roadshow in a couple weeks, and I was wondering if this oud would be anything worth bringing...

Matt,

Allow me to be the first to welcome you to the forums! Congratulations on the oud, by the way.

For info on Gamil Georges ouds: http://mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=544

Who sells an oud in a garage sale?? What state is that, and when can I move?

By the way, just to be sure of the maker, check to see if it's Gamil Georges, or Georges Gamil Georges. The former is the father of the latter, and his ouds are supposed to be quite the ouds. Perhaps you can show us some pictures?

As for the Antique Road Show... I'm not sure how well versed appraisers are in oud-making history. I mean, we know him because of the sound of his ouds. As for the actual make and marquetry and such... well, let's just say there are some very expensive ouds that don't look like they have a lot of eye-catching capability. It's all in the sound.

Please keep us updated, and feel free to post and ask us about anything and everything. We'll do our best to help. Again, welcome. I hope you find the benefits this forum has to offer, as we all have.

Matt,

Welcome. Post us some pics and we'll be able to help you further.

As for the Roadshow, those guys can surprise you sometimes. But TP is probably right. You find the right person and it might be worth quite a bit. It would be fun to take it to them in any case. And we might get to see it on TV. Old ouds are the most coveted, and 'round these parts word of an old find gets the blood flowin'!
