Computer help?

Jonathan - 7-13-2006 at 07:38 PM

I know this is the wrong place for this, but I am sort of hoping that there is some computer person out there that can give me a suggestion.
Lately, when I publish my website, the quality of the images seems to be going gradually downward. I did not notice it at first, but now I am certain of it. When I check the files themselves on my hard drive, though, they look crisp and clear. Sometimes, if a couple images show up particularly blurry, I will re-publish that page, and they will be better, although still not perfect. Any thoughts?
Thanks a lot!

Hi Jonathan

Just had an idea that might explain what is happening. I have noticed that Internet Explorer (and possibly other browsers?) seems to reduce the size of a photo automatically when it is displayed alone on a webpage. If this is the case, then when you hover the mouse pointer over the photo, an icon should appear in the bottom right corner of the photo itself - when you click on this icon the photo is restored to its original size.

Hope this is some help, but sorry if you were aware if this already.

All the best

David

I never ear something like that.
I have often obtained great help at http://www.experts-exchange.com/Web/

Thanks, guys. I will give it a shot, jazzchiss.
For somebody that is addicted to the internet, I am pretty clueless when it comes to computer technology.

Jonathan,

It's possible that you are displaying the pictures at the wrong resolution, or that you have the dimensions wrong. If you have reduced a photo to 72dpi at, say, a height of 300 pixels and then tell the Web page to display it at 600 pixels, it may indeed look blurry. Also, if you have a photo that measures a certain height and width and you tell the Web page to display it at a disproportionate height and width, it will look distorted.

I took a quick look at your site, but didn't notice anything awful(!). Do you have an example?
