i was wondering that if you have mastered the oud, or at least play it professionally if you are able to play the other ouds with little practice. for example, i play the syrian oud so will i be able to play a bashir oud just as well with minimum practice??

hi. the major differences in the ouds is size/tuning, so it's not that big a stretch (no pun intended) to go from one to the other. the different schools of oud playing though are pretty different, so it takes some time and effort to learn the theory and repertoire that differs from one school to the other.

it's a great thing i think to go from one type of oud to the other, and lots of great elements exist in the different schools of playing that we should all at least be exposed to i think.

so in other words, if i were to learn a bashir oud (which is what i want to do) and i am currently being taught how to play a standard oud (advanced) it would take me a while to learn??
