Lyudvig Dagesian CD

John Erlich - 11-21-2006 at 01:08 PM

Hi Fellow Udis,

Anyone know anything about this CD or player: Lyudvig Dagesian, "Middle Eastern Classical Oud"?

http://www.armenianmusic.com/view.cfm?pid=1212&CFID=5838&CF...

I just discovered it, but have never seen the CD before nor heard of Mr. Dagesian.

The only info I found in a Google seach was that the CD came out in 1999.

Thanks,
John

John, haven't heard of this oud player but in searching further I see there a CD on the site by female Armenian oud player Hasmik Hovsepian with a sample of her playing. In case this url does not work click on dance/party mix.

Parev Andy,

Yeah...I saw that CD by the female oud player and listened to the sample. I wasn't particularly impressed by the sample. I thought about mentioning this CD, but I was afraid that she would be harrassed by numerous MARRIAGE OFFERS from members of this forum.:))

All the best,
John

Parev Friends,

Thanks to Forum member David Parfitt for reminding me about this! Five years later, I listened to sound samples, which are available only on Parsegian Records' Russian site (Почему? Я не знаю!), then went to the English site and ordered the Lyudvig Dagesian CD, as well as one by Garo Petrosyan (whom I actually heard live with John Chookasian's ensemble c.1999).

I am mostly enjoying both CDs. I find Dagesian's style more more compelling, but dislike the (synthesized?) duduk drone, which is not only unnecessary (IMHO), but too loud and actually gets in the way of the oud. The Petrosyan CD has some accompanied melodies, as well as taksim, and two (very nice) violin taksim as well. The Dagesian CD has no liner notes, and the Petrosyan CD minimal notes.

The seller is in Los Angeles, and I don't know whether they ship internationally.

David,

The link you provide leeds to the site of 'La mediathèque' in Belgium.
And it is where I am working.
It is basically a music (and film) library in french speaking part of Belgium.

A good source with the database. All the contributors of the cd are mentionned, as you can see in the exemple of David.

And a very precious place to borrow music (sometimes rare).
But only for 5 milions Belgians and close neighbor.

Well I will listen to the cd you mentionned, David.
But now I'm on holiday. Listening to that cd is part of my work. :)

Hi Robert

It's certainly a small world! Look forward to hearing your impressions of this recording, and if you can find out any biographical details for Lyudwig Dagesian that would be very useful too.

All the best
