For those of you interested in studying traditional oud in the Iraqi style, you can now take lessons from Mr. Serwan Yamolky. Serwan is from Baghdad
and studied with Munir Bashir. He speaks excellent English and is extremely open-minded while being very immersed and versed in the history and
culture of the oud. He also gives very good and spontaneous Arabic lessons!
You can contact Serwan by calling him at 604 942 9625. For those of you with less experience contacting a teacher directly, you can contact me and I
will make the introduction for you. See also http://www.dreamwindow.net/serwan

Hey Tim, do you know Gord Grdina? I think he studies with Serwan.

hi Brian. I do know Gord, but not personally. He did study with Serwan, that's right. It's nice to see local interest here in Vancouver for the oud
and Oriental music in general. Unfortunately, it seems that a lot of Middle Eastern instruments are kind of under-represented here...too bad.
Great oud teacher

I studied with Serwan Yamolky while living in Vancouver, and highly recommend him as a teacher, he helped me get started on the oud, and I would take
lessons with him again if I was to be in Vancouver again. Just a correction, I believe Serwan studied with Jamil Bashir. If you live in the area and
are interested in playing oud he,s the man to see , for sure!
