Have you guys heard the great CD 'Oud Aljazira' by Fawzy al-Aiedy? It has to be my favourite oud CD, but it seems to be the only one he has
produced [there is a jazz recording and another one of children's songs (!) apparently].
Does anyone have any other audio files of Fawzy playing oud?
All the best

David, could you maybe give us a sample of some of the clips you've heard from him? I'd appreciate it a lot.

Fawzy al-Aiedy - Nahawand

Hi TP
Hopefully I have attached the first minute or so of the opening track on the album.
Like I said, this has to be my no.1 favourite oud CD, but that's just a personal preference! Fawzy is an Iraqi, but his style is very different
from the more meditative one of Bashir et al. The album also has some vocal/oud tracks and features Adel Shams el-Din on percussion.
I'll post some more clips if you like this one.
All the best

Another try!

Sorry TP, it was too big - here's another attempt (the track is actually over 7 mins so it is not really representative of it)
By the way, I read that Fawzy studied with the famous Salman Shukur (I have some of his stuff as well if you're interested) at the institute in
Baghdad.

Here's a Rast intro to the song Ya Shadi al-Alhan.

And here's the start of the song itself. If you are interested, the CD is available from Amazon.com and they also have a few more sound
samples.

P.S. TP, have you heard the new Naseer Shamma CD yet? I actually prefer it to his Ishraq and Baghdad Lute CDs, but I guess it depends whether you like
his style of playing or not.David Parfitt - 2-6-2004 at 08:52 AM

Hi Ronny
Any views on Fawzy's music or style? Do you have any other recordings of his oud playing or any more info about him?

I'm not consider him as a oud soloist but more of a ensemble player for his own popular styled compositions. You can find inf. about him on some
French sites. After all he's a typical Middle eastern musician trying to survive in a new hemisphere.
