Damascus made oud

Hi dear oud colleages (or indeed ud colleages)

I'm new to the forum but have been interested in uds for quite a while. Bought my first in Istanbul in 1992 - not a great one (from the now defunct Nida Sazevi in Unkapani) and is now just a wall ornament. Current instruments I play, beside many baglamas (the instrument I'm really devoted to) are a very nice 1988 Cengiz Sarikus ud (with carved kus, bird) and a great instrument made by Hasan Sarikaya (of Iller Sazevi) in his Kuwait days (although it is a Turkish design of course). Anyway, this is beside the point.

The other main ud/oud I have is a Damascus made oud - that much I can tell. My ability to read Arabic script is limited. I can tell from the label this instrumet is made in Damascus in 1978 but not sure about the maker. I am posting a picture or two of the label in the hope that someone can tell me the make and indeed if it is a maker of any repute. The intrument I can say is very nice. Beautiful action and very strong rich and warm sound. It was obviously used in a nightclub setting as the roses have been knocked out and there was a pickup put inside. It is certainly a good quality instrument.

Anyway, thanks for any help that anyone can offer in identifying the maker.

regards

Paul

Pardon me for being an idiot and pedantic. Just read my post and need to correct the fact that I bought my first ud in Istanbul in 1982 not 1992. Nida Sazevi was well and truely gone by 1992! Sorry for confusing any Turkish list members :(

The maker is Fu'ad Haydar. I have a buzuq made by him which has a great sound. I am not sure if he is still producing instruments.

Many thanks al-Halabi for identifying the maker. Much appreciated.
