some one can help me for Fadel measures?

Lazzaro - 2-24-2007 at 05:17 AM

A friend of mine is starting to build a Yaroub Fadel copy -floating bridge, 57 cm scale length-, I have some detail of soundboard, braces, etc. but I dont know the width of the nut and width of the strings at the nut and at the bridge.
Can someone help me please?
Thanks in advance:rolleyes:

How did you get the details for the bracing and soundboard which is more difficult to obtain?

Lazzaro - 2-26-2007 at 01:53 AM

I've got them from a copy.
Best wishes Maurizio

I think that you also could use the measurements from an oud by Foad or Fawzy.
The neck on the Fawzy oud is wider than the Yaroub and Foad with better spacing between the courses.

Hello Mauricio,

the distances you asked for, I do think are depending in most cases from the players effords. But anyway I can give you those mesurements that I took from Naseer Shamma's instrument which is made by Yarub:

Nut: 40 / 31,5 mm ( total / strings )
body: 60 mm but he prefers 62 mm

I used theese measurements for my copy of this instrument, which you may see on my website.

Regards Matthias

Hi Matthias and Maurizio, I measured my Fawzy oud and it is very much identical the Yaroub 42 mm nut and strings 37mm. Matthias measurement 60 mm is the joint neck/body where my Fawzy oud has 62mm. The width (strings) at the bridge is 80mm.

Thanks for your usefull information. I decided to use 40 at the nut, 58 at the body and 82 at the bridge. I think also that I will do same changes in the details to personalize the instrument even if I know that it will be difficult not to use such a beatifull and simple stile.

Best regards Maurizio

Can someone tell me how wide (from the widest point) the soundboard/face of a Yaroub is?

Also, if its readily available, the same measurement for a Fuad and Fawzy.

Many thanks in advance.

The Fadel copy I have seen is 35,7 cm wide. I think it is more narrow then the original but I find more confortable for me.

Thanks, do you mean "37.5" (37 and a half cm)? Sorry, Im not sure if that is a typo or a European convention for decimals.

My Fawzy is one huge monster; 40 cm (400mm) with
a very deep bowl.

No, 35 cm and 7 mm equal 357 mm.

Thanks Ronny, the width of the soundboard is 357 mm.
I don't want an exact copy of real Fadel. I tried a copy with a good sound and now I want copy it using hig quality woods. I hope to share some pictures.

Best regards
Maurizio
