Marhebah-Hello

I Just bought an Egyptian Oud from Ebay. It has 12 strings and I dont know how to "tune" it at all. I downloaded the Oud tutor which seems really good from starting out, but I dont think the sounds are right. I also dont have a pick, can I make one? Any help is extremely appreciated, Thanks :))

any help for getting it tuned? Thanks

you need to uncross the strings, they nees to run parallel to eachother, and since it is an arabic oud tune it the Arabic way as mentioned above.

One other tuning is CFAdgc, I see you are adding a thin nylon string, you need to remove that and either tune it GAdgc or FAdgc, and if you want to add another string, I recommend a 6th classical guitar string (E) and add it to the top (Close to your head) and tune it either D or C respectively according to the above mentioned tunings.

If you wish to tune it for the 6 courses as C F A D G C (low to high) download these small midi files that will make it easier for you: Download Arabic Tuning Midis

Greg
