It's a beautiful instrument, and the bowl looks great. What woods did he use exactly?

Congratulations, I hope you enjoy it with good health. :)

Thanks for your words Mavrothis.

The bowl is very beautiful. (more than pics) .

the woods are yew and cherry wood.

Microber - 4-19-2007 at 06:45 AM

Wonderful bowl, and the rest too.
I like very much those wood very clear.
You say it is yew and cherry wood.
Which one is the 'yellow' and which one is the 'white'.
It make me thinking at an oud made by Yaroub Fadel.
Here are some pictures.

Thanks Microber,
your oud from Yaroub Fadel seems of curly maple. is very beautiful.

the yellow (or light orange) is cherry wood and the one that this a little curly, is yew.

gracias

correction from the master:

You have denoted that " the yellow (or light orange) is cherry wood and the one that this a little curly, is yew." on you thread. Let me correct this: they are vice versa.
Regards,
Faruk

What a beautiful instrument, just gorgeous. What is the sound like - could you post a sound file. The neck looks nice and wide also. What model is it? did you specify the woods?

Best regards and happy playing

I love this sentence. I imagine the trees looking into all the oud makers and deciding that Faruk was the one they wanted to make them into ouds.

Pepe everything is fine. I hope you too.
Yes we enjoyed that night very much.Wine, food, music :) but the whole weekend with Yurdal was a big experience.Right?

No, is not curled maple but Platanus orientalis which I bought for this oud from David Dyke in UK.

Such beautiful work Turunz does. You can tell even in photographs. A true artist.

Lintfree - 5-6-2007 at 11:25 PM

What kind of spruce is the top of the Turunz?

I made the top out of Eastern Blacksee Spruce (Picea orientalis)

Jassim - 12-29-2007 at 02:59 AM

is this oud is grand consert or quwality oud my freind?

jdowning - 12-29-2007 at 04:45 AM

Thank you for posting the images of the ouds - just beautiful and inspirational work. This posting has helped me to finally decide to use yew and lightly figured sugar maple on a liuto attiorbato (13 course lute) that I am currently building as these two woods give the very nice and subtle contrast in colour between the ribs that I am looking for.
The yew wood that I have in stock has a very similar colour to the ribs of the oud which I assume is a species of European yew - but I am not certain as it was grown in and purchased from an arboretum in Britain. What is the species of yew used on the oud?
Thanks

pepbcn - 12-29-2007 at 06:20 AM

Thanks jdowning and Jassim (your new Oud is amazing) this is a concert Oud.
The combination of wood is very beautiful, with time have darkened a bit and have been matched in tone (a tone orange) the grain are as different they make a beautiful combination.
Ask to Faruk for the species of Yew, I do not know ..
