Greetings Fellow Udis,
For those of you in the San Francisco Bay Area, I will be doing a lecture and performance the evening of May 10, 2007 at the Magnes Museum in
Berkeley. I will be joined by talented Berkeley-born lead singer Rachel Valfer and Syrian-born percussion wizard Faisal Zeidan.
The topic will be the Jewish role in Middle Eastern music.
I only wish that it was subsidized and could be a free event...
Peace,
Udi

Sounds great John, will this be videotaped?

Hi Jason,
Don't know, but I'll check with the museum.
Peace,
John

Have a great performance, John :-)
Do you play ala as well?
John Erlich - 4-24-2007 at 03:36 PM
Hi Milo,
I am actually more of a "Mashriq" than a "Maghreb" type of player, but we may include some Andalusi music in the program. The North African focus is
what the museum requested--to match the focus of their current photo exhibit. I may make Rachel play and sing a song that she picked off an Amina
Aloui recording, though.
I should also note my typo above: Faisal's preferred spelling of his family name is "Zedan."
Thanks and All the Best,
John

Jason,
The museum reports that the program will be videotaped, but only for their own archives. They don't make these tapes available to the public
(neither free nor for sale).
Sorry.
All the best,
John

I would have loved to have seen it. Maybe I'll get to see you play one day... thanks for looking into it though
