1957 Georges Nahat for sale

Meursault - 4-30-2007 at 06:09 PM

I am selling my 1957 Georges Nahat. Some of you may remember this oud from Nazih Ghadban's site about a month ago. Basically, I just don't need four ouds, not least because my wife is about to have a meltdown.

I bought the oud for $2,200, not including the $250 hard shell case Nazih sold me with it and the exorbitant customs fee of $200. I'm asking $2,200, and I'll throw in the case.

Soundboard: spruce, original. Two cracks down front that had been professionally repaired when I got the oud.

Rosettes: original

Bowl: walnut, good condition, original

pegs: original, I believe

Full disclosure: within a week of having the oud, the bridge came off. I suspect this was because of the extreme change in humidity between Lebanon and Nashville, TN, where I live, and the fact that it had been glued on using white glue by someone previously. I have had a professional luthier re-set the bridge, and while he did a great job getting rid of the excess glue and making it look nice, I think the alignment is slightly off. This is a minor repair that could be done for $50-$75.

I will try to find the sound file that Nazih had up on his site. Basically, if you like the deep, haunting, classic arabic sound, this is the oud for you.

If interested, please email me at keithdhodges@comcast.net , as I will not be monitoring this board (my name is not Meursault. I was reading Camus at the time I joined :)).

Thanks to everyone for their support. You can count on hearing this oud in 16 bit audio as soon as it is playable. I have a new project to show as well, I don't want to ruin the surprise, but you haven't seen nothin' yet!

I also bought a 155 Nahat, that is beautiful, but as with yours the glue weakened and the sound board and surrounding inlays came loose (the whole top separated from the body).
Beware, and also ask if they can certify the oud is original and not a reconditioned with original + newer parts. Changes the value, and collectability
