chords on oud or cumbus

sufi - 5-30-2007 at 02:09 PM

hi,

i am a beginner cumbus player and i am making a south america tour with my new cumbus now. here is the only place for me to learn some tips and tricks about this instrument.

i always watch videos on youtube to learn some more and it is very useful to discover the instrument, but i have a question. on some videos i see that players are playing some chords on oud and i want to know how i can play these chords with cumbus to get a full sound of notas.

my tuning is from low to high EF#BEAD

THERE ARE PEOPLE USING THIS TUNING FOR OUD AND IF THEY CAN SHARE WITH EM THE POSITION OF THE HAND TO PLAY SOME CHORDS WITH CUMBUS.

thanks

sufi

Hi Sufi- Depending on if you are familiar with stringed instruments like oud, guitar, mandolin, etc and how to do chords on them, or if you know anything about how simple chords are made up, then I think you would be able to figure out how to come up with basic simple chords on your cumbus or oud. Some oud methods have chord charts, such as the one by John Bilezikjian (link below), and by studying these chord charts and then with some slight modifications of fingering you might be able to apply similiar chord shapes to your cumbus or oud in your preferred tuning- as they say- "necessity is the mother of invention" good luck buddy!
