Shalom Ofer,
Regarding CDs:
The biggest Arab and Middle Eastern communities in the USA are in Detroit, New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, and these are where the better Arab
(and Persian, Armenian, etc.) music stores tend to be.
You can always surf the internet looking for Arabic groceries (some Arab-American groceries have a fairly good CD collection)--there are some in the
Dallas area. There is web page for an Arabic band (mostly Western instruments), "Layali," based in Dallas. You could always ask them about Arabic
music shops in the Dallas area.
My best suggestion is to look for on-line distrubutors in North America, Europe, and Turkey, who have postal contact with Israel. Here are some:
Rashid Sales (Brooklyn, NY, USA): http://www.rashid.com/enter.asp (They have a large retail store in Brooklyn)
Maqam.com (USA): http://www.maqam.com/ (Fewer traditional CDs lately, though I prefer their service to Rashid's)
Tulumba.com (Brooklyn, NY, USA): http://www.tulumba.com/ (EXCELLENT collection of traditional Turkish music and great service!)
Buy Arabic.com (Brooklyn, NY, USA): http://www.buyarabic.com/ (The "Arabic branch" of Tulumba; great service, but fewer traditional CDs available than on Tulumba)
Armenian Music.com: https://www.armenianmusic.com/store.php?match_any=&start=0&c... (Never bought from them)
A couple US Persian music sales sites: http://www.iranianmovies.com/ http://www.musicboxla.com/
Also: http://www.iranmelody.com/Music/ (don’t know where they are based…)
Hollywood Music Center: https://www.hollywoodmusiccenter.com/ (They have some great CDs among a lot of junk)
Studio 52 (Thessaloniki, Greece): http://www.studio52.gr/ (Great CD shop in Greece's 2nd largest city; service not bad; sells some Arabic and Turkish music, as well as Greek, with
oud; the most outi [oud] friendly category of Greek music is "Traditional - Asia Minor.)
Kalan (Istanbul, Turkey): http://www.kalan.com/english/scripts/ (I own many great Kalan CDs, but have never bought from their web page; last time I checked, the shipping
costs were more than the [low] CD costs)
Fassiphone (Belgium): http://www.fassiphone.com/ (I bought a rare CD of Iraqi qanoun music from Fassiphone; I was interested because North African music is the hardest
Arab music to find in the USA; site is in French; NOTE: THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THE WORST I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED FOR ANY WEB-BASED SALES OF ANY
KIND!)
Institute Du Monde Arabe (Paris, France): http://www.imarabe.org/prat/librairie.html (I don't know how they sell their CDs; They have a PDF catalogue and the CDs are on pg. 56-69: http://www.imarabe.org/prat/cat_publications2005.html)
I assume that you have already gotten all you can get from the Jerusalem Book Shop (they had 3 stores locations in 2000, with the biggest in the
Muslim Quarter, not far from Damascus Gate), Heze's shop in the shuk in Shechunat Hatikvah in T.A., and Israel Music (http://www.israel-music.com/f/?q=Oud&s=10).
Hatzlachah rabah,
John

All members of the ensemble that accompanied Mohammed El-Qabbanchi to the 1932 Arabic Music Congress in Cairo and all but one member of the Baghdad
Broadcasting House Orchestra in the 1930s: http://www.dangoor.com/72page41.html
