Iraqi Ouds

Oud.Proff - 9-23-2007 at 09:04 AM

Specifications:
This very oud is made of walnut wood (soundbox, fingerboard, pegbox, bridge, nut, and pickguard). Although originally had walnut keys (pegs) too, they were in a bad shape and had to be replaced by elegant ebony keys (pegs).
The soundbox is composed of 19 ribs separated by superb lemon wood lines. The wood lines are also used to decorate the back of the fingerboard and the pegbox as well (see pix below). The face is made of a wood type known as "Cham".
The oud is a 6 course one (designed to house 6 pairs of strings). However, only 5 pairs are installed (brand new Pyramid strings).

Dimensions:
- Fingerboard length: 20cm (8"), width: 6cm (2.4").
- Soundbox length: 49cm (19.6"), width: 38.5cm (15.4"), depth: 19.5cm (7.8").
- String length (from nut to bridge): 60cm (24").

The soundbox has this skewed bowl deasign (towards it's base).

The front of the oud, fingerboard, and rosettes are inlayed with amazing wooden decorations, of different colors (rosy, olive green, dark brown, lemon yellow), forming the unique signature of Fadel on his superb ouds !

The oud will be handled and shipped professionally (TNT, FedEx or DHL), and an online tracking number will be provided.

Hi Dubai244! The case can be purchased from a USA ebayer, Palmyrami. I just ordered one myself.

NOTE: added Oct2008, I sold this sukar case, not as good quality as I thought.

Hi Matthew,

Thanks for the information. I knew it is sukar case, but i wasn't sure. $99 is not bad. I think i am going to order one.

Thanks

Hey dubai244,
I see you got the answer regarding the case. Thanks Matthew.

As for the oud, it ended up in my hands through a friend of Faiq (the elder son of M. Fadel), and was told by him that Faiq actually did some "cleaning" work of the face (like sanding, due to some apparent sings of aging on the face at one point) before it looked as great as it is now.

Regards,
O.P.
