Hi guys,
My teacher Stamatis Merzanis asked me to take this oud in for an action adjustment, so I thought I'd share pictures and maybe some sound with this
instrument. It's one of my favorite ouds, and it has a sound that reminds me of Tomboulis and Hrant - Gurbuz (Gürbüz) is in Izmir and so like his
counterparts there usually builds them with very thin tops, and his instruments are very light if this one is a typical example.
It was made in 1995 or 1996, has a bowl of wenge I think, spruce top, and is just beautiful. String length of 57cm, so it might be a "woman's" model.
Very comfortable to play, and very bassy/sweet. It reminds almost of an Arabic oud, or like a very bassy Karibyan.
Enjoy the pics, I'll see if I can post some sound too, but the strings are pretty old and might not do it justice.
Take care,
mavrothis

Lovely looking ax, with primo old style horn type rosettes. Sound clips would be great fun !

Hi guys,
Here is a low quality recording, with lots of background noise, of the Gürbüz ud.
Enjoy,

Okay...you got your low fi sound sample and the oud still sounds great !! When you hit the low "E" right at the end...I kept waiting for that, because
the free ringing bass of those classic instruments is just so cool ! Thanks Mav.
