B. Eitan

David Parfitt - 12-14-2007 at 06:43 AM

Just been listening to some of the excellent MP3 files on B. Eitan's website http://www.b-eitan.com/ Does anyone know what the "B." in his name stands for?

I met him during Yurdal's seminar in Houdetsi this summer. Very nice guy :)

Thanks Charlie - any idea why the names are reversed and the surname abbreviated like that? Is that word order usual for Hebrew names? I think Hungarian and Chinese names have the surname first, and there must be others too.

Best wishes

David

Hi David,

Although I have never met Mr. Eitan, I am 99.999999% sure that his given name is "Barukh" (also transliterated "Baruch") and his family name is "Eitan." "Eitan" is the modern Hebrew form of the English Biblical name "Ethan."

Both names are quite common Hebrew names and both appear as both as given and family names. (There was an infamous right-wing Israeli General and politician named Rafael Eitan.)

As far as Israelis occasionally listing their first initial rather than whole first name, I do believe that this is a wee bit of British influence in a corner of the former Empire. :D

Best,
John

Got an email from him recently. Couldn't read the Hebrew, but it looks like they have an upcoming performance on the 21st. Maybe one of you guys can translate.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi guys,

I met Eitan in Houdetsi in 2005 and we became very good friends. We also got to spend some time this past year while he was visiting New York.

As you all have said, he is both a beautiful person and player, and I think you will continue to hear great things from him.

If you remember, he was shown on F. Turunz's site playing the Nihavend Longa with Yurdal Tokcan.

Take care,

mavrothis
