it is definitely a very beautiful presentation, and the craftsmanship on this oud looks excellent. I agree about the name, 'oud of the year'; I think
Wissam could have chosen a better name for this lovely instrument. DoReMi - 1-18-2008 at 03:19 PM
For having had the chance to cross Wissam Joubran several times, and the last time was at the UNESCO where this Oud was exposed, I can tell you that
he didn’t choose this title “Oud of the year” in the sens you take it, but because, as he told me, every year he will elected one of his Oud as
« Oud of the year » among the other Ouds he built during the year.gilgamesh - 1-19-2008 at 12:52 AM
Hello Doremi, I share your point of you about Maestro Wissam Joubran; he told me so last time I saw him after the trio concert. He played with his
first oud which he is not satisfied at all.He regrets that orders piles up and not having time enough for manufacture, because of the touring and
the composition.;He really is a exceptionally kid with great talent and the modesty which has to be. And I m very happy to see the hugeness of his art one more time

Hello there,
While I was searching for the oud maker Wissam Joubran, I arrived on this great forum. I'm very happy about it and i've already learned a lot from it
Glad to see so many fans of oud, I couldn't imagine that!
See you soon on many topics

Oh, I like, I like. Agree, funny name, but with a bowl like that he can call it "turnip" for all I care.
Pierre, soyez le bienvenu. Ahlan wa sahlan.DaveH - 2-1-2008 at 02:09 AM
PS from the photo is looks like the bowl isn't round, but chamfered (spp?) like european lutes. Jamil, does this sound right to you?Jameel - 2-1-2008 at 05:16 AM

but its not as obvious in pictures with the light wood and lack of spacers.Pierre - 2-1-2008 at 07:52 AM
Hello Jameel,
Does this kind of bowl have influence on the sound? Anyway i like this style.Jameel - 2-1-2008 at 10:01 AM

Good question. I have no idea. Maybe a lute maker would know.DaveH - 2-1-2008 at 10:40 AM
...which makes me completely unqualified to reply, but I'll have a go anyway. My guess is it doesn't really affect the sound as the internal surface
is still the same in either case. I'm guessing the thickness of the bowl is more or less similar, whether it's scraped down in the case of a
round-backed instrument or whether the staves are thin to start off with in the faceted back in this example (or in lutes). The number of staves
might make a difference as the more they are the less angular and closer to round is the internal surface.
Jameel - very nice back on the sandwich top.

Oud of the year sounds a bit cheesy but it is a beautiful piece of work and also the 3D thing is pretty impressive flying around the body like
superman
The sound has a nice clear separation and sustain.
