Hi JT! do you still perform with you brother? the guy is brilliant with that drum! family members that play together have that something special, like in the trio Joubran and you two. best wishes, MW

JT. Nice sama3i. What can you tell about your experience with this kind of Bridge? is it better that a regular or a floating brigdes?

SamirCanada - 1-29-2008 at 08:59 AM

JT, I am talking about the bridge in this video in which you're using Faruk's Oud. By the way, very nice playing here and the piece is lovely "Birds of Paradise"

Hi Joseph

Wonderful stuff, I love bird of paradise - thae sound you get from that oud is very special, sort of full and 'complex' if that makes any sense. How can I get hold of your new CD by the way.

Take care

Leon

Ararat: The oud is made by Faruk Turunz, great oud maker. I don't think this is the real voice of the Oud. It seems that the sound quality is not optimal in the link of Birds of Paradise. You hear lot of base sound and the high pitch notes are poorly projected due probably to the quality of the sound uptake. Anyways JT can clarify this issue.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the comments. Leon, my cds can be purchased off links on my website (http://www.josephtawadros.com) in the discography section or do a google search(btw theres another one coming soon;).
Katakofka, there are plenty posts discussing bridges and peoples preferences, But personally I prefer stable bridge ouds for a more Arabic sound. The bridge Turunz uses for the JT model is very effective and my oud sounds very Arabic. I think its not really question of bridge, but the maker and other ingredients involved in the general make up of the instrument.

Cheers,

JT

Thanks JT. Actually I will precise my question: between 2 Faruk's Oud, having fixed bridge, one having a guitar similar bridge and one not, which one would be better in terms of sound generated? Does introducing a bone between the bridge and the strings change the quality of the sound?
thanks

JT - 1-30-2008 at 04:48 AM

Hello Katakofka,

I found no difference between the two bridges you speak of. Again, i believe it all comes down to the skill of the maker, and the ingredients he uses in making his ouds - not just reliant on the bridge.

All the best,

JT
