Hi,

This is the orignal version of Austrias played by John Williams.

Hi Dubai- 'Asturias' is such a sublime composition. Interesting to see Farid and band having a go at it, it works nicely on the oud, though in the hands of an accomplished guitar player it can really be amazing.
I like the youtube clip of Andres Segovia at the Alhambra playing this composition; he was well past his prime which makes this recording/clip even more moving.

Hi Matthew,

Nice clip for a best guitar player, Andres Segovia. I guess he is the father of the new classic guitar players generation.

Any way, There is a record for Munir Bashir playing small portion of asturia as well. Of course with classic guitar it sounds much better.

I will try to play it one day .......... ;)

Thanks

The Joubran bros also plays Asturias.

(starting at 4:31 more or less)

Samir plays it down the fingerboard, near the bowl. He says that Farid probably did not realize that Asturias could also be played "down there".

Are you serious?

Yes. Heard directly fm Samir's mouth at a summer master class in Arles although i would like to reproduce his exact words.
It did not sound as a critic of Farid el Atrach. But more about a new, different way to play Asturias.
You know that the Joubran brothers are allways looking to be innovators.
