Technical question - If I want to post on here, does anyone know of a good and preferably free programme for compressing mp3 files on a mac?
Sorry to ask a dumb question which parobably has a very obvious answer. I'm pretty clueless as far as music software goes. I searched but couldn't
find any previous posts on this.

as a mac user the fortune is on your side
just use iTunes
load your file make a right mouseklick on it and choose
the option convert to mp3
the settings for that you find in the preferences in the iTunes menu...
it works with iTunes version on PC as well
cood luck

Yes Mourad, but I believe you first have to go in the iTunes prefs and choose "advanced" > Importing > Import using: MP3 ENCODER.
After you've done that you can convert a file into an MP3 in the way Mourad suggests.

I had the file already as an MP3 but wanted to compress it further. Thanks to your advice I worked out how to change the bitrate, but the result was
really poor sound quality if the file was to be under 1 meg. So I'll post a link. Thanks to both for your help, though you may not wish me good luck
when you hear the file!
