Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a Classical Kemenche and Tanbur luthier. Does anyone know/recommend where I could purchase these instruments?
I've had a brief look around on google but I didn't get any immediate/obvious results.
Many thanks!

The link given by Alan-TX is to an Australian instrument maker called Peter Biffen. He is one of the best and most experimental luthiers in Australia
and has been making instruments (guitars and early music instruments especially) as far as I am aware since the 1970s. I have a chittara moresca (a
medieval European version of the saz) made by him which is beautiful. More recently he has been experimenting with a thing he calls the "tarhu" which
comes in various forms based on instruments such as the yayli tanbur and kabak kemane (spike fiddle). He used to make ouds too a long time ago - not
sure if he still does. The person pictured playing the lyra tarhu is the great Ross Daly of course.
In regards to classical kemenches, you could also look at Veysel Muzik Evi. Cengiz Sarikus I know makes good quality instruments. http://www.veyselmuzik.com/tr/klasik_kemence.php
[Eyvallah Cengiz baba, nasılsınız? Sizden aldığım Ohanyian kopuz sever evde kalıyor. Görüşürüz}

Thanks for the replies pirsultan, Alan-tx and oudipoet!
Peter Biffin's instruments look and sound just amazing! But the price tag is around 5k. Which is a bit much for me as a phd student :p
I'll definitely try Cankayamuzik and Veyselmuzik. I'll let you guys know of the result..
Thanks!

Neyzen, where are you based?
I have a classical Kemence from Cankaya, it is very good. They make very nice kemenclar, they are not as good as something from Resat Uca or
Veysel...but they are are between intermediate to professional, if not professional. Mine has a very nice sound. If you are interested in pictures, I
can send them to you, just send me a U2U with your email.
I maybe interested in selling mine, I like playing kemence, but i need to fund a new oud eventually....
