I think the one hand playing is an extension of hammering on and pulling off study.
Some exercises when learning classical guitar, to get the left hand strong and punchy, can be played without right hand when mastered....so the
extension become possible with complete tunes.....
This playing, of course, doesn't only concern classical guitar playing!
