Me too I tried to reach him I hope he is in holidays

MatthewW - 6-4-2008 at 01:25 AM

I hope Haluk is OK; the last email I had from him was about 10 days ago. Maybe he's on vacation taking a well deserved holiday. You can try contacting his North American distributor Yori who is based in Canada to see if he has any news on Haluk. try Yori at: <mundo.instruments@gmail.com

Let us know what you come up with.- best wishes, MW

Has anyone found out if Haluk is ok. Also sent email inquiries with no reply.

chaldo - 6-27-2008 at 12:47 AM

same with me friends, no reply.

t4rbool - 6-28-2008 at 02:57 AM

After one month with no communication,
I decided to cancel my order (lost the W.U fee
I don't know what happen to Haluk, he was very helpful one month ago and happy to send me an oud, so it's a total mystery...
bad luck for me..hope haluk will join us soon...

Ararat66 - 6-28-2008 at 06:24 AM

I would reinforce what Matthew has just said - with all due respect to Melbourne, it would be unwise to characterise 40 years of making by one or two bad ouds (for what reason we don't yet know, sorry your experience was not the best Melbourne, I know it can be very dissapointing).

My oud from Haluk is still going strong an although I upgraded to a pro Tasos oud (for a lot more money) there is no way I am going to part with my Haluk oud.

I hope all our thoughts are for Haluk's wellbeing - if you are reading Haluk my friend please put our minds at rest - I'm sure I speak for all members on this forum.

Best wishes

Leon

I am sorry to have to advise all forum members that Haluk has died. He was in hospital and picked up something like a staph infection. He died after 16 days.

I am in Turkey and I have been trying to contact him. I have just spoken with his wife by way of an interpreter. Of course, she is very upset, as he was healthy until he went into hospital for a relatively minor health issue.

He is survived by his wife and a son from his first marriage.

On behalf of all the members of Mike's Oud Forums, I have communicated our deep sorrow and condolences to the family.

Vale Haluk.

This is very sad news. He was a valued contributor to this forum and, from the few of his ouds I'd tried, represented great value for money. I think he helped an awful lot of people into a better understanding of turkish music and musical instruments. Our thoughts are of course with his family.

I have been watching this thread and am so sorry to hear of this, very upset! My thoughts right now are with his family, I will always cherish his memory.

This is indeed sad news, and those of us who dealt with Haluk will surely remember him as one of the friendliest and honest guys around. You're right Dave, Haluk helped many aspiring oud players purchase their first decent oud by keeping his prices down and many others through his understanding of Turkish music. I bought my very first oud from Haluk and kept in contact with him ever since. Haluk's ouds now seem more special that he is no longer with us. yeah Leon, we'll miss the guy, not only for the ouds he made but for his regular input into the forum. My thoughts go out to his family.

Greg - 6-28-2008 at 11:59 AM

When I spoke with Haluk's wife (by way of an interpreter), she was very thankful that the oud world would be informed of the sad loss. I assured her there would be an outpouring of sadness from the many users of his instruments on these forums. She told me to contact her again if we required further information. She was very upset, so I did not prolong the conversation. For the same reason, I would think it inappropriate to make further contact for the moment.

If further contact needs to be made, I have good reason to believe it should be with her, rather than other members of the family.
If any forum member has an outstanding issue, please U2U me and I will contact her again, at an appropriate time.

I am in shock and deeply upset...
I had lengthy msn conversations on various subject with Haluk...
sadly its someone who had worked very hard all of his life.
I ask God that he may find peace now.

I had been reading this thread the last few days hoping Haluk would show up and announce he had been on vacation or too busy building ouds to respond. This is the worst news I could have imagined.

Haluk helped me a great deal when ordering my first oud. Everything from wood choice to shipping logistics His oud will definitely always hold a special place in my collection.

I think it would be nice if we put together a scrapbook of sorts for his family. Maybe have pictures of his ouds in our homes or outside. His family should be very proud that his work has touched all corners of the world.

oudplayer - 6-28-2008 at 06:19 PM

hey guys

wow . this is really sad. i have one of his pro models number 3 and love it. he was such a nie person when i spoke to him.

May god take him to a place like heavan and make him king for a day. he did not deserve this at all.

condolencies for his family.

and yes i think we should make somethign in his memory. Maybe whoever has his ouds should take a pic of it and write one or 2 words about it.

thx sammy

I am deeply sorry to hear this news. Only a few weeks ago this kind gentleman helped me in choosing a saz. Yori sent the instrument to us a couple weeks ago and we had been looking forward to sharing this instrument with people who love music here. And I had hoped to send Haluk our thanks.

I truly believe that the measure of an individuals life is the number of people he or she positively touches and inspires. Though I only new him through email, I have seen his influence here and in the instruments that he has provided to the world. And through those musicians, his efforts have touched countless others and will continue to do so.

I know for me this instrument has taken on a greater meaning in light of this sad news. I hope that it can contribute in a tiny way to continuing Haluk's kindness and inspiration, as will all his instruments for all of us who have been touched by this kind and creative gentleman.

Sincere condolences to his family and friends. And thank you for your kindness Haluk.
