Hi everyone,
To all the Turkish speakers here, I thank you for all the help you have given me over the last couple of years with English language lyrics
translations to various Turkish songs. I am again troubling you, I'm afraid...I've been working on a lot late Ottoman sarki's recently and I am
asking for help with the lyrics for the following two songs:
Baga Girdim Kamisa
bağa girdim kamışa
su ne yapsın yanmışa
mevlam sabırlar versin
yarinden ayrılmışa
gidin bulutlar gidin
yarime selam edin
yarim uykuda ise
uykusun haram edin
tepsiye koydum narı
ağlarım zarı zarı
gurbet ele yolladım
kıvırcık saçlı yari
and the next one:
Kimseye Etmem Sikayet
kimseye etmem sikayet aglarim ben halime
titrerim mucrim gibi baktikca istikbalime
perdi-i zulmet cekilmis korkarim ikbalime
titrerim mucrim gibi baktikca istikbalime
Thank you all in advance, if you can take any time to help I would greatly appreciate it. All the best regards,
Amos

Amos, you should learn some Turkish (kidding)
I give the first one a try:
bağa girdim kamışa I entered the garden ...(not sure, but kamis is a type of reed instrument I think)
su ne yapsın yanmışa What will water do for the bruned
mevlam sabırlar versin My lord give patience
yarinden ayrılmışa To the one separated from the beloved
gidin bulutlar gidin Go clouds, go
yarime selam edin Salute my beloved
yarim uykuda ise if my beloved is sleeping
uykusun haram edin Ruin her sleep
tepsiye koydum narı I put the pomegranate on the tray
ağlarım zarı zarı As I cry continuously
gurbet ele yolladım I sent to the foreign lands
kıvırcık saçlı yari My curly haired beloved

And the second one:
kimseye etmem sikayet aglarim ben halime I can't complain to anyone, I cry for my situation
titrerim mucrim gibi baktikca istikbalime I shake like a criminal, when I look upon my future
perdi-i zulmet cekilmis korkarim ikbalime Pulling a curtain of dark, I am afraid of my fortune
titrerim mucrim gibi baktikca istikbalime I shake like a criminal, when I look upon my future
Gloomy indeed...

Hi Peyman,
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this...Are you Turkish? I am impressed at your understanding of the sarki poetry, as I find it very
difficult with my knowledge of modern conversational Turkish being as limited as it is....I cannot say enough how much your help will give life to my
playing and singing of these songs, thank you so much. If you need anything translated from Spanish or Italian, I'm your man
Teshekur ederim and all the best regards,
Amos

You're welcome. I am part Turkish but I lived in Istanbul through the 80's and the 90's as a youngster. That's how I picked it up mostly and I keep
fresh by watching TRT and listening to Turkish music.
I wish I had taken Italian in school. It's a neat language.
