is it fadil oud??? another picture

hama - 9-16-2008 at 02:24 AM

sorry for some reason i could only attach one picture at a time

Alioud - 9-16-2008 at 04:20 AM

It looks like it was made in Mohammed Fadel's workshop but I think it was made by one of his sons. Either Omar or Faiq. My guess is that it was made by Faiq.

Mohammed Fadhel was not doing anything at his old age in 2000.

But it does look authentic.

How much did you pay for it?
Can you please record something and attach it here. I would love to hear it.

Alioud - 9-16-2008 at 04:22 AM

The absence of a serial number is suspicious though.

It could be an excellent replica but I still think It is authentic.

hama - 9-16-2008 at 05:18 AM

Thanks Alioud,
I paid around $900 for it inclusing a hard case , changed the strings a week a go, i am getting a buzzing sound at teh moment , i am hoping that it is because the strings are new and will settle in time, otherwise i have to show it to a specialist to look in to it,
as for recording , i am quiet a bigginer and hopefully will do something in the near future,
thanks for your help again

paulO - 9-16-2008 at 09:44 AM

Hi Hama,

Fadel or not, it's a lovely looking oud. It may take a couple of weeks for the strings to really settle in, but I don't have any experince with floating bridge ouds. Just checking the photos again, it looks well made; the bowl design is lovely.

Regards..Paul

Nael - 9-17-2008 at 03:56 PM

Dear Hamada

Mohammed Fadel used only rose wood in this type of oud moving bridge and from the label you can know that this oud is done by Faiq he alwayes cheeting people and you didnt trust him. I have a lot of Fadil orginal oud one of them made in 1958 moving bridge and also 2 normal oud one of them was owned by famous oud player Ali Hassan for any inquries please contact me

Gee, isn't there always SOMEONE out there who is willing to burst a bubble? Hey, if you love the oud and it plays well, who CARES who made it. Isn't it all about the music in the end? ;)

nadir - 9-22-2008 at 07:48 AM

It's good to see such spirit, but as you know, there are people that have undoubtedly been tricked or conned in this forum. Hama is rightfully upset should they have spent money worth a Fadel oud for an imitation.

It's like spending money on a BMW when it is some other company's car and the point of driving is just to get from place to place.

But please do not be offended in any way about my reply, and this applies to everyone, but it definitely seems to be the case that we are rightfully suspicious and frustrated for a reason!

TAFTAF - 9-27-2008 at 02:34 PM

hi guys be carful we still here. first how many time do we have to say that faik , or Faeq or as mentioned here Faiq. is the oldest and still working in Iraq. and he was the one working on his father workshop since he was 10. and now he had had submitted a full numbers of fadhels ouds to the ministry of Arts and culture in Iraq. and you can get a cirtificate on the authenticity of this oud. www.faikfadhel.com

this is Omer Oud it is clear it was signed by Omer. but still you have to ask Omer if it is his but this is Omer signature cant you see. :applause: and fadhel was working till the last day of his life and he died stronger than me. :D

hama - 9-28-2008 at 01:21 AM

Hi TAFTAF
thanks for the clarification,
I still have the oud and kind of happy with it as i am a beginner,it has some buzzing sound of the qarar strings , may be it is down to changing the strings 2 weeks a go ( i hope it is any way)i think the bridgr and neck need some work or perhaps replacing ,I wil show it to some body in london in teh nextwek or 2,
as long as the oud is build by one of fadil sons or a family member, i wil be happy, as a matter of principle ,i wil be upset if some body sold me and oud as a fadil oud and urns out to be some thing else.
Best regards

hama

Hama!
For this buzzin sound, try to put a little, tiny peace of paper under the nut, so the action of the strings will be a little bit higher. So the strings will not buzz. It works sometimes....

TAFTAF - 9-28-2008 at 04:40 AM

you are 100% right . good day hama:wavey:

hamed - 9-28-2008 at 05:19 AM

Hi All

This is a Takseem recorded on My oud ( picture atached) by a friend , not a great sound quality and doesn't do the Oud Much Justice,
the reason for the poor sound quality is , the Takseem was Recorded on a normal Camcorder without any special Mic or any extra accessories, then the audio extracted from the Video, the size of the audio file was almost 3 MB , so we have to compress to 1MB to be able to attach it here , hope you enjoy it and forgive the poor sound quality .

Sam - 4-7-2009 at 05:09 PM

i dont know bro .. i guess thats not muhammed fadhel's job

i saw old ouds of him here and some for sale

Reda Aouad - 4-8-2009 at 12:46 PM

Hama.. don't worry about the quality of the recording.. it is good enough and shows clearly the sound of your oud.. which is nice :) but yes the buzz on the bass strings is a bit annoying.. hope it gets better..

Hi Amer
I am glad you like the oud and enjoying it like i did, it was very nice to meet you too and i am happy that the oud is in safe hands and is with some body who appreciates the oud.
it was confirmed by amember of fadil famil as well as by yaroub mohamed fadil that the oud is made by one of mohamed fadil sons( i have the email to prove that)
when i bought the oud , i didnt buy it to sell and make money and i can assure you that i didnt make any,
the only reason i sold it is to finance purchase of a new oud by Faruk Turunz, which I have ordered one last week and photos will be shown here as soon as i have received the oud,
also i am glad thT amer liked the oud , he had a chance to see the oud and try it,, i have insisted that he sholud come down to london and see the oud and try it for himself and test the oud ,to think about it before making a decision and that is what happened , he is a happy man now ,he called me next day to thank me and tell me how happy he was.

one thing i have noticed here is ( some people) will go through the pages and search for certain threads about ouds and lable them as fake without any reason or prove, and surprise surprise suddenly they come up with an original one themselves and offer it for sale, or suddenly they know a friend who can offer original ones and they put their email address on display here, if you want to sell your oud sell it but dont label other peoples oud as fake, what makes your oud more original than another? what prove do you have? stamps and lables dont always prove alot , if the lable on my oud could be fake then that can apply to yours.

i hope this subject is closed now , and some people will think twice before accusing others.

ammar22 - 4-10-2009 at 03:58 AM

so Many reasons the Aoud is not original.

the label is not ture, Mohamed Fadel would never sign his Aouds with any anybody else.

the keys are not the origianl since it has a special shape only familiers with Fadel Auods can notice the difference so IT IS NOT ORIGinAL

fernandraynaud - 9-3-2009 at 03:27 AM

Not to reopen a sore, but I'd like to please understand. The label in the oud seems like it was printed on an inexpensive printer, and cut out from the paper with scissors. The photo itself shows no dithering (dots) but the label certainly does. The signatures seem done in ballpoint, but no idea if they match anything. Just for future reference, is it normal for a certificate label to look like this?

The oud sounds nice, but does not have the same timbre as the one from the .ppt file. The question oud came with the bottom strings off, and they sound like maybe the nut is notched a little too tight so these strings vibrate against each other? Or are the strings just too low ? anyway this hurts the bass. Easy to fix but is that a pride of Fadil oud?

It's really hard to tell with the JPG compression so severe, but the ouds shown on the web site seem to have a very refined finish, noticeable on the soundboard and bridge in particular. The question oud has a bit of that "utility oud" to it, nothing wrong with it, just not quite as polished. The peg heads also look different.

I'm here to learn. I would be happy to have this oud. So my questions are in the line of wanting to understand for the future, for my own purposes, not trying to be a smart-ass or offend anyone, I certainly don't claim to know anything about Fadil ouds. Can someone clarify on those points? Thanks
