Oud Question?

Hello guys.

im new to this forum, glad to be here! :)

I am a danish composer writing sheet music for quintet ensemble involving an iraqi oud player.

My question goes on 2 subjects..:

I am currently writing the Oud part on a Treble Clef! as if it was the right hand on the Piano player. Should I write it in the Bass clef? what do you guys prefer?

the next question is kinda the same, as i said im writing it in the treble Clef. Asuming the oud player can read the notes as if it was written for piano right Hand.

Do you think there could be a problem involved with that, regarding tuning??...

Hi Souljah,

Yes, the oud should be written in treble clef. However, it is written up an octave, like guitar, not at concert pitch like piano. So the middle C (Do) is actually the space on the bass clef in terms of performance pitch.

For Turkish oud players, the rules are somewhat different, but they tend to be good transposers.
