high i recently purchaed a bahraini oud not sure what type of oud it is whether its turkish or arabic my strings snapped when tuning the packet was
set to modern turkish classical so i tried that but the string snapped after the peg when i wound it up kept unwinidng back. i'm not sure what to tune
it 2 or what strings to be using if its any help to defining it from turkish or arabic the fingerboard is flat and doesnt extend passed the end of the
neck it has a light timber top and a light timber on the back with the darker wood strips

The Turkish tuning (EABEAD) is probably too high for the Arabic string length. Turkish string length is 570-600mm, Arabic s.l. is 600-650mm. The
strings broke because the tension was too high. If you use heavier strings that can take the tension, you might damage the oud from the high tension.
Best to get a Turkish oud for Turkish tuning. A turkish oud can be tuned to Arabic tunings(DGADGC) because the tension will be lower.
