Small (shallow bowled) Egyptian Oud

Mike - 12-7-2008 at 07:56 PM

Hello all,

I received a phone call from Mr. John Bilezikjian a few days ago and he was looking for some help for a former student and current friend. To make a long story short, this oud was owned by John's student who took lessons with him a few years back. She now has to sell the instrument due to some health issues that have arisen. From what we know, this oud was procured for her in the late 60's by a Palestinian oud player named Amir Jaffar. It has a unique shaped bowl that I'm not sure the pictures capture, but it has a very flat bowl. My guess would be that it is about 4 or 5 inches deep. This leads John and I to believe that this more than likely was an oud made for a female player. Unfortunately there is no label inside the oud. The oud is in very good condition and has a nice punchy Arabic sound. I will attach a video link as well so you guys can hear it. If you are interested in this oud, you can contact John directly at dantzrec@aol.com. One last note: the hardcase for this oud is INCREDIBLE. The padding on the inside is exceptional, and the outside is extremely rugged. It appears to have been made specifically for this oud because no other ouds fit in this case. Both oud and hardcase are going for $850 plus shipping.

Price Reduction....

Hey everybody,

John is willing to offer this oud for $800 or best reasonable offer. He also has a very nice 1974 Syrian (we think...gonna need some help with reading the label) oud as well for a similar price. I'll be putting up that ad for him shortly with pictures and a small video. I'm sure he'll be willing to work with prospective buyers on that oud as well. I have seen and played both instruments. These are great introductory instruments. Much better than those junkie "beginner" ouds one can find on ebay or other online retailer websites.

Best,
Mike
