I'm curious about what people think is the best wood for peg box sides when used with ebony pegs.
Is mahogany too soft? I've used maple in the past with good effect, but I have some mahogany that I would very much like to use.

Jonathan,
I'm new at this, but I used mahogany and ebony pegs on my oud. So far so good.

Mahogany is ok if you make the wall thicker -1/4inch/6mm minimum. Be sure the grain is perpendicular to the hole axis and fit the pegs a little shy of
the outside wall. Being a softer wood, the pegs will push in a bit more as they seat.

Thanks, guys.
